Where February Went

March 6, 2014 § Leave a comment

So I’ve been pretty inactive this last month, pretty much since my return from Califonia. I haven’t been writing as much as I’d like, February is usually a kinda dud month for me with regards to writing anyways.  Catching up on work, memory of my mother, depth of winter and all that.

I have been working on a short story, however,  set in my Brujeria world. Called the Perdedores (Or, How to Deal with  Dead God.) And I’ve been itching to edit a few other stories one last time, I think, before sending them out.

In short, not much to report right now, but you should be looking forward to more activity around here. Especially considering I just started a game of Nobilis with my gaming group. Lots of myths, metaphors, and imagery to work with that I’ll enjoy throwing up here on occasion along with some musings on writing.

Also, I’ve recently read Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson. Amazing book. Amazing world.

The Holidays, and More About Death Sent

January 20, 2014 § Leave a comment

Well. I’ve been away for a month or so, visiting California and the family for the Holidays. While I’ve been gone I’ve been deplorably inactive here, and pretty bad all around, unless you count catching up on a years worth of comics and playing repeated games of King of Tokyo as a productive use of time. That’s vacation for you though. (Productive, no. Fun, very much so.)

So I don’t have much to report, except that my story Death Sent made the list for  Tangent’s Recommended Reading List for 2013, which I’m pretty excited about!

I look forward to being around a bit more now, and throwing a few more posts up around here. (Also possibly a review for Deadlands Noir, because I discovered that this was a thing that existed- and am thoroughly excited. Deadlands has always been one of my favorite game settings.)

Kurtana is out next week!

December 2, 2013 § Leave a comment

My story Kurtana is appearing in next week’s issue of Beneath Ceaseless Skies, can’t wait to share it with you all. It’s in a pretty neat world, that I enjoyed creating and hinting at. The entire story came into being while I was fiddling around with rpg rulebooks while watching a few movies with my girlfriend, and sort of spun itself out from there.

The Great Baconing: Play Reports the Third and Fourth

November 21, 2013 § Leave a comment

For the purposes of this play report the third and fourth sessions are combined into one cohesive post. They go quite well together. I’m sorry if it’ll be as brief as I can make it, I have a lot of work to do on the campaign. And other things, in general.

In order to rescue Tonian from jail Pipe and Etzel went to Deaf George, who resolved to rescue Antonian. Giving the two time to manage their affairs, he went to the prison a few days later masquerading as Tonian’s uncle. After revealing that he too was a spell-thief, he teleported Tonian onto the already sailing ship The Graceful Flight. After informing Tonian that a debt was owed, he spirited himself off the ship. « Read the rest of this entry »

The Great Baconing: Play Report the Second

November 11, 2013 § Leave a comment

The session opened with the characters all split for two days, waiting for Etzel to deal with lair and base building logistics.

Tonian wiled away his hours buying bread for the poor and helpless, while scoffing at the “Man” and various charitable organizations that cared more about their own personal enlightenment than creating measurable improvement for others. Pipe spent his days doing crime-things and earning money.

Etzel received a note from her friend Han in the Granite-Candles that she is a person of interest in the affair at Ruby Tien’s. She also notices that she has a tail. She did normal, unassuming things during the day, and at night turned owl-form and carried out her business. She went without serious sleep.

She found a shady architect-mage willing to skirt some rules and provide divinatory shielding for a base beneath a shop-front. The man offered a serious discount if Etzel could provide a dark-naga corpse, because the body and skull of the creature provides a great deal of valuable material components and focuses for magic. « Read the rest of this entry »

Feliz Dia de los Muertos!

November 2, 2013 § Leave a comment

The only holiday I ever take the time to really write about has come round again. The candles and marigolds are out, the sugar skulls are smiling, ofrendas settled onto tables. People are dancing the old dances, skeltons are laughing the old laughs.

I’ve talked about what the day means to me a little bit, and in a larger context, before. Here and here. So I won’t do that again. I do, however, have a poem loosely inspired by traditions. It caught me up, and fits the day pretty well I think. « Read the rest of this entry »
